Grade 9 – Computer Dependence

Taylor Ploch

In our society, jobs that do not use computers are few and far between. The military uses computers to pinpoint enemy positions. Scientists use computers to predict the outcome of experiments. Thousands of jobs just use computers to keep records. It is my belief that human dependence on computers is a good thing.

Sabrina Jordan

Reliance on computers is increasing more and more in today’s society. People are depending on computers to do most of their work instead of picking up a pencil and paper and doing it themselves. Is our society too dependent on computers?

Meaghann Hall

In recent years it has become very noticeable that the human race is becoming more and more reliant on computers. It is not hard to miss that as we become more accustomed to the Internet and other functions of the computer, we begin to use them more often. We become subordinate to the technology and use the computers for more than work and finding information. Computers have become more of a necessity than an information source. As a society we have become utterly addicted to them. However, is our dependency a good thing or should we be more questionable of their benefits?

Kaytee O'Berry

Although computers have been around for over 2000 years, they only just started showing up everywhere in the last decade or so. Originally, computers were just used for basic math and navigation. However, now they are used for almost everything you need to know. Over the last ten years, we have become very dependent on computers. A lot of people think it’s a good thing but just as many think it’s wrong to expect a little machine to do our work for us. Personally, I think that our dependency is a good thing.

Dacie Manion

Technology is extremely prevalent in today’s society. Sixty-four percent of adults in the United States used computers at their home, school, or workplace in 2003. Also in 2003, roughly 9 in every 10 American children in kindergarten through 12th grade utilized a computer at school. This means that the majority of US citizens access computers on a regular basis. These computers are responsible for many aspects of or daily lives. The question is: is this good or bad?

Annie Cashon

Every day, millions of people use computers for research, the Internet and computer games, MySpace, Instant Messenger, and for other uses. Computers can be a good learning tool, but have we become too dependent on these machines? I believe that our society has become overwhelmingly dependent on computers. Internet predators, obesity, and lack of basic writing skills are all potential dangers of excessive computer usage.
