Political Campaigns - Grade 12

Micah Roemmich

Negative advertising in today’s political campaigns is rampant. It is on the television, internet, radio, and many other communication mediums. The question is, how correct is this negative advertising, and should it be banned from use in these political campaigns? I personally feel that negative advertising is trying to undermine the other person’s reputation and downplay him in the public eye. I also believe that there is a way to solve this issue.

Megan Murphy

Is the topic of politics in the United States one that should be thought of as a fair race between Presidential candidates or as a negative, ambiguous, and malicious race? With the political campaigns gradually becoming more cunning with how they word their advertisements, will we be able to believe any of the messages that they are seeking to convey? Our nation should put its foot down on the leniency of the negative political advertisements.

Matthew Marshall

Negative campaign advertisements and tactics have become as much an influencer of voters as the actions and words of the campaigners themselves. Some argue that negative campaigns can bring about truth but I, for one, believe they do more harm to the political process than good. I would suggest that a campaign’s reliance on negative advertisements shows more weakness ~in their character than it does about the flaws of the opponent.

Libbey Long

In any election the candidates should be allowed to run negative ads towards their opponents while they are campaigning. If a candidate tear down the other people in the race and are ruthless in his tactics, then that will show the person’s true nature to those who will vote for him.

Levi Washburn

The banning of political ads that portray other candidates negatively is controversial and murky subject. I personally believe a candidate should be allowed to campaign as he or she wills and let the people decide who they want to lead them. Upon that believe my stance is that negative ads should be allowed in a political campaign.

In any political campaign, whether on a local or national scale, there are always acusations of a candidate using the seemingly underhanded tactic of negative advertising. These accusations have grown so numerous, that many people wonder if negative advertising should be banned altogether. I say no. Negative advertising, though unscrupulous, is a fair technique to use in any political race.

Kevin Caldwell

Negative advertising is said to be a useful tool in campaigning. However, it can often be deceptive and ruin the other person’s reputation with possible false statements, focuses on what is wrong with the other person, not what the candidate will do to help, and in many cases turns people off to what he has have to say.

Kaitlin Jeskey

Negative advertising is one of the most influential parts of the political process today. Although many people think that this is an awful thing, I believe that it really brings out the true character of people and the creativity they have. So in much dismay I believe that negative advertising in political campaigns should not be banned.

Jillian French

Negative Advertising is a strategy that is used by political candidates to make their opponents look bad and in turn make themselves look like the best candidates for the job. So, the question posed today is, “Should negative advertising be banned7” Today, I am going to tell you why negative advertising should not be banned.

Jasmine Mallar

Negative campaigning is trying to win an advantage by referring to negative aspects of an opponent or of a policy rather than emphasizing one’s own positive attributes or preferred policies. A campaign is supposed to be vicious and show the true character of the person. If there weren’t any dirty tricks in the campaign, the campaign wouldn’t have any affect on the voters.
