Grades 7 & 8: Animal Testing

Taylor Grierson

Is animal testing necessary to develop new medicines and advance scientific knowledge? My opinion swings either way. It is good that people want to help animals by figuring out what is wrong with them, to create/find new medicine. Although it could be bad only if the animals are harmed. I also think it is mean to use disadvantaged animals against their will.

Ryan Bergeron

I believe that animal testing is necessary to develop new medicines and advance scientific knowledge. Human lives are more important than animal lives. By testing we can avoid diseases that may harm people. It costs less to test animals than people.

I believe that animal testing is necessary because human lives are more important than animal lives. Animal lives don’t mean as much as humans. Humans could die if we didn’t test animals. We need humans in the world to run it.

Reese Leonard

I believe animal testing is not necessary to develop new medicines and advances in scientific knowledge. These are my reasons why I do not think it is necessary: humans and animals may have different genetic makeup, the testing may not be foolproof, and some testing is done for not that good of reasons.

Mary Dishman

I believe that animal testing is wrong. Animal testing is just cruel. If they do it on animals, I do not understand why scientists don’t do it on human beings. We have about the same DNA, so what does it matter?

Kristi Mackin

Yes, I think animal testing is necessary to develop new medicines and advances in scientific knowledge. One reason is because humans are more important than animals. My second reason is because it may cure the animals’ diseases. My third reason is because rats are just disgusting.

The reason why I think humans are more important than animals is because animals don’t create anything. They don’t invent things like humans do. Humans have created clothes, shelter and heat. Animals have not done any of those things. Therefore, humans are more important than animals.

Kassy Taylor

Some people ask themselves is it right to do animal testings. My opinion is yes we should three reasons why is because mice and rats are useless and gross, it would cost less to test them, and lastly it could help cure serious diseases.

James MacDougall

I don’t think animals should be tested to develop new medicine. My reasons are: animal abuse, animals infecting others, and humans and animals have different DNA.

My first reason is animal abuse. We should not test on animals because it is abusive. They can get seriously hurt or die. Animal abuse is not right. The more an animal is abused, the more it doesn’t trust humans. If the animal is abused, it should be a criminal offense, no matter what the cause is.

Cassandra Thibeault

Is animal testing necessary to develop new medicines and advance medical knowledge? Yes, I think animal testing is necessary because humans may not be harmed, and it costs less to test animals than humans, and mice are disgusting.

Kevin Buchanan

No, I don’t think animal testing is necessary. I have three reasons why I think it shouldn’t happen. My first reason is that it could be considered animal abuse. My second reason is that the medicine might have a different affect on us than it did on the animal. Finally, my third reason is that the animal somehow escaped after being tested on, it could infect other animals, or infect us.

David Dube

I think animal testing is necessary to develop new medicine and advance scientific knowledge because we can find ways to cure AID, cancer, etc.; it’s better for mice to die than humans to die because people are more important than animals; and people can sue but animals can’t.
~I think animal testing is necessary because we could cure a lot of diseases ~without killing people. We use mice to cure cancer, but they have not found a cure yet. That’s too bad for my friend Brian who
