Is animal testing necessary to develop new medicines and advance scientific knowledge? My opinion swings either way. It is good that people want to help animals by figuring out what is wrong with them, to create/find new medicine. Although it could be bad only if the animals are harmed. I also think it is mean to use disadvantaged animals against their will.

Animal testing is a great idea because it shows that people really care about sick and dying animals, and are willing to do anything they can to prevent them from getting any sicker. Which shows their affection for animals.

I think animal testing should end today because it is estimated that fifty to one hundred million animals worldwide are used annually and are killed during or after the experiment.

Most commonly tested animals are mice, rats, amphibians and fish, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, carnivores, farm animals, and other rodents. Most animals are obviously small ones. Most of the animals are ones that are very common, or are far from extinction, which is good so that they don’t go extinct doing so much testing with them.

So back to the question, is animal testing necessary to develop new medicines and advance scientific knowledge? Overall I am against it. I think it is wrong to test animals against their will, putting their life at risk and not caring. It should stop.
