It was a lovely day in Summerville and Brad was running home from school. This, Reader, was very unlike Brad. He usually stopped to smell the roses to postpone doing homework. Today was different. Today his new sister was coming home! His parents decided to adopt a girl roughly two years younger than him. As you can imagine, Brad was very excited.
When he got home, Brad burst through the door. What he saw, he was totally unprepared for. His parents said they were going to adopt someone who really needed a home because no one else would. The girl on the couch was not the ugly little girl he had imagined. She was a very pretty little blonde with the brightest blue eyes! Brad’s mother walked in and introduced her. Brad was still spellbound but he did manage to catch her name. It was Lilly.
Brad’s mom took him aside and asked him what he thought. Brad told her how surprised he was. His mom completely understood because she felt the same way! Neither of them could ever imagine what was wrong with her. As a matter of fact you must be crazy to imagine it! There was more to this than meets the eye!
For awhile, Lilly looked as if she was perfect. One morning though, clouds gathered overhead. This wasn’t ordinary rain. At first Brad was speechless. Then Brad screamed a terrifying scream. Brad’s mom came running. She asked him what was wrong. He summed it up in one short phrase. “It’s raining cats and dogs!”
His mom told him that this was simply monkey business. She sighed and reluctantly looked out the window. Then she echoed the scream of her son! By the way, Reader, there was a very good reason for screaming. This is because there were in fact dogs and cats pouring from the sky!!!
It took a while to recover from shock of seeing cats and dogs fall from the sky. (As you can imagine.) After they did recover, they both thought the same thing: Where is Lilly?
Brad and his mom searched all over their house frantically. Brad finally found her. She was sitting on the front porch stroking a kitten. That wasn’t all. Her head was turned but Brad could see she was crying a river. No, seriously. There was a small river flowing through the yard!
Brad was starstruck. He asked Lilly what on earth was wrong with her. Lilly made Brad promise not to let the cat out of the bag if she told him. Brad promised not to. The truth was, she was cursed. Whenever Lilly was around, idioms started to happen! You see, Reader, Lilly was in a pickle! Not really! That is a different story. Anyway, Brad didn’t know what to think. He decided to talk to his mom. A little while later they came back. Brad and his mom told her they would still never lose faith in her. They also would never tell anyone about Lilly’s curse. So remember, mum’s the word!
