Negative Advertising is a strategy that is used by political candidates to make their opponents look bad and in turn make themselves look like the best candidates for the job. So, the question posed today is, “Should negative advertising be banned7” Today, I am going to tell you why negative advertising should not be banned.

First and most importantly, we live in a free land. We have certain rights. Banning negative advertising would be an infringement on one very valuable right. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing to cherish. Therefore, if we permit the banning of negative advertising, then we would slowly give up our right to verbalize our feelings and convictions.

Also, negative advertising could help us question the candidate that is being slandered. We can research his past and learn more about his views on the issues. Some things said in negative advertising could help us learn things about the candidate that he wouldn’t tell the public himself. However, we must remember that not all negative advertising is true.

Lastly, this strategy helps us to take a closer look at the candidate who is using negative advertising. If a candidate is too focused on finding the fault in his opponent than staying focused on the important issues, then you should wonder hoe knowledgeable he is on those issues. Also, this should make you question that candidate’s character as well.

Negative advertising may help a candidate, or seriously hurt a candidate. It is the candidate’s choice on whether they choose to use this strategy or not. They are only practicing their freedom of speech.
